Rapid Bridge Selected As Finalist In EDN’s 20th Annual Innovation Awards Competition

Metal-Programmable LiquidCell Recognized for Excellence in Innovation

SAN DIEGO, February 22, 2010 - Rapid Bridge, an innovator in advanced semiconductor design and development processes, announced today that it has been selected from hundreds of nominations to be a finalist for this year’s EDN Innovation Awards for its revolutionary LiquidCell™ library. Available at the 40nm process node, LiquidCell offers chip designers optimal performance, low power, smaller area, higher yield and unparalleled flexibility to reduce cycle time and enhance speed to market. LiquidCell consists of a metal-programmable sea of transistors that can be configured seamlessly into millions of usable elements from a library of over 700 standard cells.

EDN Innovation Awards
Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the people, products, and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year.  Nominees must have demonstrated innovation that resulted in a significant advance in technology and/or product development during the past 12 months. Nominees within the Innovations of the Year categories must have shipped in volume in the 2009 calendar year.

“We received an impressive number of submissions for our 2009 Innovation Awards program, indicating that innovation was alive and well despite the economically challenging year,” said Rick Nelson, EDN editor-in-chief. “In the Silicon Intellectual Property category, Rapid Bridge’s LiquidCell Library was one of the outstanding submissions our editors chose. And now, it’s up to the readers to determine which product in each category they find most compelling.”

During the months of February and March, EDN’s worldwide audience of electronic engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among the finalists. EDN’s editorial staff also take part in determining the final winners. We encourage you to visit www.EDN.com/innovation20  to review each of the nominees. Winners will be announced at a reception and awards ceremony on April 26, 2010, in San Jose, CA.

LiquidCell – A Platform for Innovation
Rapid Bridge’s LiquidCell is a revolutionary library consisting of a metal programmable sea of transistors that can be configured into millions of usable elements supporting more than 160 functions from the 700 standard cells. The LiquidCell library offers superior performance with the added feature of metal configurability to dramatically enhance speed to market. Utilizing a sea of transistors, LiquidCell allows designers to make full logic changes using metal masks only – reducing the cycle time and costs associated with chip spins and derivative products.

Additionally, recognizing the issues with advanced nanometer chip development, Rapid Bridge’s design team created the low power LiquidCell, which is unrivalled in allowing designers to optimize power, area and performance: lowering power consumption (both static and dynamic) by 20 – 40 percent, reducing cell count and corresponding core logic area by 25 – 35 percent and reducing timing closure efforts by more than 25 percent.

“We are delighted and honored to be included among the finalists for the EDN Innovation Awards,” said Massih Tayebi, CEO of Rapid Bridge. ““Rapid Bridge’s engineering and development team have delivered a revolutionary approach with our LiquidCell library for optimizing power, performance and area.”
